I like to think of counselling as a collaborative journey, where counsellor and client work together towards your desired outcome, combining both of our resources and knowledge. Through an organic process of talking, listening and curious, compassionate self-enquiry you will gain new insights and awareness.
Empowering your true, authentic self
Enhancing your ability to create and repair connection with self and others
Finding ways to identify patterns of shame that hold you back, replacing these with kindness and self-care
Releasing emotional blocks and old, stuck energy to create space for a new aliveness and
spontaneity
Learning how to re-frame problems and generate your own creative solutions
Expanding your tool-kit of resources and strategies so you can cope better with life’s
challenges
– all of this can be part of your journey with me.
What kind of counselling do I offer?
I trained initially in Gestalt relational therapy, and through subsequent additional diplomas I absorbed other therapeutic approaches, shaping me into an integrative counsellor – skilled in offering an integrated range of techniques.
My own personal healing journey through attachment loss and trauma has powerfully informed my way of working, providing me with intuitive insight and empathic sensitivity within the therapeutic relationship.
Gestalt relational therapy holds the belief that our experience of relationships – with others and with ourselves – is central to who we are in the world, to our ability to function well and feel fulfilled.
Working relationally means the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is intrinsically important to the successful outcome of the work, as it creates a space for us to learn to be authentic and real, and to test new ways of relating with openness and honesty.
Gestalt is a creative and experimental form of therapy, and so sometimes I may invite you to approach an issue creatively in order to develop greater awareness. For example, using symbolic objects like pebbles or crystals to recreate a situation can be a helpful way of gaining different perspectives.
I like to work holistically with all parts of you – the physical, spiritual, mental and emotional self. I may invite you to bring an awareness of your body into the session, as it is such an important source of information, valuably supporting self-insight, greater choice and a way of calming distress.
