FAQ's about bookings and Session Costs
How much does a session cost?
I charge £55 for a one-hour session of individual 1:1 counselling. A one-hour couples counselling session costs £65. I can also offer 1.5 hour couples sessions for £90. I have a limited number of low-income spaces available at a reduced fee. Please contact me to discuss this further.
How often do we meet?
Sessions are usually weekly, as being able to meet once a week allows for trust and safety to develop between us, and also facilitates an inner energetic momentum of insight and growth. I can offer flexibility according to your needs – coming on a fortnightly or more irregular basis is possible, and I find that many of my clients like to come back for one-off check-in sessions to deal with an unexpected issue or as a kind of ‘MOT service’ to support their well-being.
How long does counselling take, and how many sessions will I need?
There is no set number of sessions, counselling can be as long or as short a journey as you feel ready to take. The time we spend working together will very much depend on what issues you are bringing and the type of support you need.
We will spend time in the first session discussing what you hope to achieve from counselling and what changes you want to see in your life. Throughout the sessions we will regularly check-in with each other to review progress, and to assess how your counselling experience is meeting your needs and expectations. I will support you in working towards ending the sessions when you feel ready, and at that point we can use the last session to bring our therapeutic work to a clear ending.
What can I expect to experience from working with you?
When we begin our work together I commit to respect and value you as a unique individual, to focus on your safety and well-being at all times, and to act with honesty and integrity. My aim is for clients to gain a greater understanding of themselves as a whole, and to feel more empowered and equipped with the right tools and resources to cope better with life. I like to think of counselling as a collaborative journey, where you and I work together towards your desired outcome, combining both of our resources and knowledge.
What if I miss a session?
I ask clients to give me as much notice as possible if they are unable to make their session. If you need to cancel your session with less than 24 hours’ notice, I will usually charge 50% of the fee. Equally, if I have to cancel a session, I will contact you as soon as I possibly can.
Is everything I/we talk about confidential?
As the client you have a right to privacy and confidentiality, and as your counsellor I agree to keep confidential everything we talk about in the session. This is central to my commitment to be trustworthy, and to put clients’ safety first. However, if any information you share with me leads me to believe that you or someone else is in danger of serious harm or death, especially if this was a child or vulnerable adult, then I would need to share this with other professionals. Where I can, I ideally aim to first ask for your consent to share this information. I will take time to explain confidentiality in the first session to ensure you understand how it works.
What payment methods do you accept?
I am happy to accept cash or bank transfer. For in-person sessions I can take cash payment at the end of the session, or BACS later in the same day. For online sessions, I prefer to receive payment beforehand.
Do you offer sessions in the evening?
I currently work in-person in Exeter on Wednesday evenings, and work online on Monday and Thursday evenings. There is some flexibility within this from week to week so please contact me if you need an evening session.
Do you offer online counselling?
Yes I work in-person and online. I completed training in 2021 in Online and Telephone Counselling, and have many hours experience of working online with clients.
